14-Day Prayer Guide
2026 General Conference
14 Day Prayer Guide
August 24th – September 6th
John Wesley is often quoted as saying that "God does nothing but in answer to believing prayer." How crucial and vital it is, then, for us to lay a strong foundation of prayer cover during the Global Methodist Church's General Conference. What a historic and significant gathering this will be as GMC church leaders from all over the globe come together in Johannesburg, South Africa. How we need the Holy Spirit to empower and lead all who attend. Yet, according to Wesley, it all begins with prayer.
Therefore, we have prepared this 14-day Prayer Guide to encourage you to pray and to help you focus your prayers. It is our prayer that the Spirit will use this guide, along with the daily scriptures for each day, to inspire you to pray and to direct you when you are not sure how to pray. You are encouraged to read the scriptures from your preferred translation, and the adjoining prayers, out loud, if possible. We are confident that this will allow the Holy Spirit to direct you further as you join others from around the globe in praying for the 2026 General Conference.

August 24th - Deuteronomy 31:8
Dear God, we are reminded that You are Lord of all the earth and everything that is in it. You calm the raging seas and settle the rushing winds. With this in mind, we invite You into all the ways that people will be travelling to Johannesburg, South Africa. We lift up every step, bike, car, train, bus, and airplane carrying volunteers, delegates, and GMC Leadership; may everyone’s travel plans go smoothly. We also invite Your Spirit into every space that will be used during the General Conference to guide and protect everyone attending. We need Your presence to unify us under One name, the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, so our fellowship can be joyful, and our time will be productive according to Your will. We invite You into every worship service, every discussion, every mealtime, and every mission opportunity. We trust these words of Deuteronomy and give thanks that You go before us in all this and more. We pray this in Your name, Jesus, and we love You, amen.
Dr Terry Teykl, Member of the Prayer Committee to GC Commission (USA)
August 25th – Joshua 1:9
Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity for the Global Methodist Church to explore Your creation in Johannesburg this year. We ask that the journey there and back be filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful moments.
As written in Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Lord, when fear or worry begins to creep in, replace it with Your perfect peace. Remind us that You are already preparing the way, and that Your angels surround us like a shield.
Help us to be fully present and cherish each new sight and sound, and to find beauty in every waking hour. May Your joy be our strength. Guide the hands of those in control, protect us from accidents or harm, and bring us safely to our destination with a grateful heart.
Remind us that we are not traveling alone. You are with us during every turn. You are with us in every waiting period. If something unexpected happens, help us to trust that you are still in control.
Help us to refrain from rushing through this trip so much that we miss what you have planned for us along the way. A quiet moment, a stranger who needs kindness, the simple joy of seeing more of this world you created for us to discover. Whatever it is, don’t let us miss it.
Thank you for always watching over us. Thank you for always going before us. We release our worries into your hands, and we ask for a safe and peaceful journey in your name.
We pray all these things in Jesus name, amen.
Ms Anita Quinn, Great Lakes Conference
August 26th - Malachi 1:10
Father God, place Your hand upon everyone travelling and bring them safely to Johannesburg. Give us patience with any delays or changes so we react in a Christlike manner.
We pray that there is no reason now, or in the future of the Global Methodist Church, for You to speak these words from Malachi over our churches! Forgive us for any way that we have come prepared to make this about us or our agenda and desires. We surrender the next 11 days back into Your hands. Your will, Your glory, and Your Kingdom, so we can be unified across borders and cultures under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We ask that You cleanse us whiter than snow and break our hearts for what breaks Yours.
May our prayers, worship, and holy conferencing be a pleasing aroma to Your senses, O Lord our God. As Your Spirit makes us aware of what is required of us, and as we come into Your presence during this global gathering, allow Your forgiveness and mercy to be just as swift as the conviction You place upon our hearts and minds. Make us one Body of Christ across every nation just as You did in Costa Rica; do it again, Lord, do it again. For Your glory and our good we willingly say, “Less of us and more of You, Lord”. We cannot do this by ourselves, but we wholeheartedly seek an abundant outpouring of Your Spirit upon us, and we pray all this in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
Rev Susan Innes, Heartland Conference
August 27th – John 20:21 & 22
Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I thank you for your love and grace. I thank you for the privilege that you've given us to stand before you to intercede and cry out to you on behalf of your Church, the Global Methodist Church. As your Word declares in the gospel of John 20:21-22 "Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.” I pray for all your servants that you have chosen from all the four corners of the world to participate physically in the General Conference 2026 of the Global Methodist Church in Johannesburg, South Africa. Grant them protection against all evil work of the enemy
whether sickness or accidents from their coming and going back. May you please breathe on them with the Spirit of divine wisdom, understanding, and strength to fulfill your perfect will and mission for the work of the ministry that you have given to the Church in
this end time in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen. Thank you, Lord.
Mr Ilunga Narcisse Kyakutala, Member of the Prayer Committee to GC Commission (DRC)
August 28th – Acts 2:2-4
Almighty God, on the day of Pentecost, You sent a mighty rushing wind from heaven and tongues of fire rested upon Your people. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered to speak with boldness, wisdom, and unity.
God, as we embark on the 2026 General Conference, we ask for that same Spirit to fill our Bishops, leaders, and delegates anew. Lord, for all the meetings and sessions of each Commission and Board, let Your Spirit guide our conversations. May our words be seasoned with grace, our thoughts aligned with truth, and our discussions and decisions shaped by Your wisdom. Where there is confusion, bring clarity. Where there is division, bring unity. Where there is hesitation, bring courage. May every meeting we attend be marked by Your presence, so that the outcomes bring glory to You and blessing to others. And Father, as we set out on journeys near and far, we entrust our travels into Your hands. Go before us to prepare the way, walk beside us to keep us company, and remain behind us to guard our steps. Protect us from harm, danger, and delay. Grant us peace in the waiting, patience in the moving, and joy in the arriving. May our travels not only be safe but also purposeful, opening doors for us to be witnesses of Your love wherever we go.
Holy Spirit, just as You enabled the disciples to speak in many tongues, enable us to communicate across cultures, backgrounds, and differences with understanding and compassion. Let our presence in meetings and on journeys be a testimony of Your light and holiness. Fill us with the fire of Your Spirit so that we may carry Your presence into every place we enter. We thank You, Lord, for being our constant companion in both gathering and going. May our meetings be fruitful, our travels be safe, and our lives be a reflection of Your Spirit’s power. In the name of Jesus Christ, who sends us forth in love, Amen.
Rev David Sablan, Mega Manilla Conference
August 29th – 1 Peter 2:9
God, we give You thanks for the gift of prayer. Thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ - through whom the veil was torn, and we are invited into Your holy presence to lay our requests at Your feet. May we never take for granted this sacred privilege of entering Your throne room with confidence and humility.
Lord, we praise You for the mighty movement of Your Holy Spirit among the people of the Global
Methodist Church. What a gift it is to be part of what You are building. By Your grace, You have called us a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Your treasured possession. Let us faithfully reflect Your light and Your love to a world longing for hope and truth. As we launch into General Conference 2026, we ask that Your Spirit would go before us and lead us - guiding every conversation, shaping every worship service, directing every meeting, and filling every space devoted to this holy work. Anoint the eyes of our heart to see clearly and our ears to hear faithfully what You are speaking. May every word proclaimed be supernaturally dipped in the blood of Jesus and carried by the Holy Spirit penetrating our hearts and transforming us from the inside out.
Make us changed people. Make us empowered people. Make us sent people - ready to live out Your calling with boldness and grace. This day we say come, Holy Spirit, have Your good and Your perfect way in and through us. We ask these things in the Name that is above all names - the name of our Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. Amen. Amen.
Ms Dana Gilliam, North Alabama Conference
August 30th – Psalm 29:2
Heavenly Father, Hallowed be Your Name! We deeply desire to ascribe to You the reverence and glory due Your most holy Name -- the Name that is above all other names in heaven and on earth. We earnestly seek to magnify Your great Name among all the peoples and nations of the earth to Your great glory, honor and praise. Hallelujah!
Holy, holy, holy! Heaven and earth are filled with Your Glory. We enter Your Presence with wonder as we gaze upon the splendor of Your holiness. We stand in awe – almost speechless – at the beauty of Your grandeur. How can mere words adequately express the magnitude of Your greatness? We love, adore, and worship You, Lord Jesus, in the beauty of Your all-attractive holiness. You are altogether lovely. There is none other. You are clothed in majesty and completely lovely in splendor. You deserve our utmost admiration and devotion of heart and life. You bring us great joy in Your Presence as we gaze upon the beauty of Your purity.
Who is like You, Lord? We entreat You to transform us into Your likeness, Lord Jesus! Your value and worth are beyond compare! We join with the angels recorded in Revelation saying: “Worthy are You, the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” We also join with all creation in heaven and on earth saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power be to You who sits on the throne, and to You, the Lamb, forever and ever!” In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!
Rev Laura Ballinger, Great Lakes Conference
August 31st – Psalm 24:1 & 10
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that the earth is yours and everything in it, help us to live with humility and gratitude knowing that we are stewards of your creation. Lord create in all the delegates clean hands and a pure heart by removing anything within all the delegates that is not pleasing you. Remove every hidden sin, wrong motive, and unclean thought. Lord strengthen all the delegates to walk in righteousness, keeping all the delegates from falsehood. Help them trust completely in you and not to be distracted by evil event around them. King of glory we invite you in every area of discussion, please take control of every delegate's heart, mind, and decision in the General Conference. King of glory, we pray that you reveal yourself to all the delegates in a deeper way. Guide their steps and direct their path so that they can walk in your truth. Let your presence go before them to open doors that can not be shut. Mighty God, as they deliberate may every closed door, barrier, and limitation be removed in Jesus' name.
Mighty God, you are strong in battle so we ask you to fight every battle on our behalf and give us victory over every challenge in the General Conference, amen.
Rev Joel Yarvinta, Southern Nigeria Conference
September 1st – Psalm 96:9
Holy God, our Father in heaven, from every corner of the earth Your people called the Global Methodist Church have gathered here in South Africa to exalt Your name. With grateful hearts and lifted hands, we come before You with songs of praise. We sing a new song to You, O God -
declaring Your greatness, proclaiming Your majesty, and celebrating Your holiness. Together with the multitude of angels in heaven, we cry out that You alone are worthy - worthy of all praise, worthy of all honor, worthy of all worship. Father, we long for Your name to be hallowed among us. Let Your holy name be lifted high in this place. Let Your name be revered, honored, and glorified by every heart and every voice. May Your name be glorified in every committee meeting, every worship gathering, and every plenary session. In our plenary sessions, may the sound of “Hallelujah” rise from our lips. Let every conversation, every decision, and every moment become an act of worship before You. Lord, we lay down our own agendas at Your feet. We fix our eyes upon Jesus Christ alone. We align our hearts with Your will and Your agenda for the Global Methodist Church. And O God, we ask - let the revival fire of Scriptural holiness ignite in this place. May the flame of revival spark from the very floor of these plenary sessions here in South Africa, and may that fire spread to every Global Methodist congregation around the globe. May the nations see Your glory. May Your church be awakened. May Your Spirit move among us in power. We pray all of this in the mighty and precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Rev Leo Park, Northeast Conference
September 2nd – 1 Samuel 16:6 & 7
Lord, YAHWEH, God Almighty, today is yet another day that history will be recorded in the Global Methodist Church. Delegates from across our connection have nominated candidates from whom some will be elected Bishops to serve our fast-growing denomination. Lord Yahweh, I present before you these nominated candidates.
Lord Jesus Christ, search the hearts of the Delegates, may the Holy Spirit filter their common human trait of judging based on outward appearances that is contrary to God’s way of looking at the heart. As each and every one reflects on all that they might have read, consulted and
concluded in their human judgment, I pray that may you now narrow and direct their thoughts toward the candidates of your choice. For these expected new sets of Bishops are not going to serve themselves but the Living Church of Jesus Christ through the Global Methodist
Church. We rely totally on you in this moment of concern.
Jehovah Yahweh, you value the inner character and intentions of individuals over their outward appearance. This has been a consistent message throughout the history of the Bible as it concerns selecting leaders to guide your people. Lord Jesus Christ, help the expected Bishops to be humble like David. A humble shepherd boy with a heart devoted to God and who goes on to become one of the most famous and faithful kings in Israel’s history, even though he was an unexpected candidate when Samuel went to select a king who was to rule over the Israelites.
Gracious Father God, may those candidates who do not get elected be at peace. While this is not your plan for their lives, you always bring about something better than we had in mind. Therefore, we trust you. May these verses of 1 Samuel 16:6-7 encourage us to look beyond the surface and to cultivate hearts that are pleasing to you. This I pray with thanksgiving in the Powerful Name of Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Rev Titus Ibrahim Loh, Northeast Nigeria Conference
September 3rd – John 17:11
Abba, thank you for the opportunity to come together in prayer once again and to stand in the gap for all the delegates as they face the task of electing our Bishops for the next 6 years. We pray against any form of politicking and biases toward self-gain or false loyalty. Instead, we ask that Your Holy Spirit guide them as they prayerfully seek your will on who they should elect. Let them not look at outward appearance or rely on human wisdom, but may they depend on your guidance as you lead them to choose the right people who will serve with humility and full reliance on you; people who will not abuse their position but will lead by example as servant leaders. May unity reign as Jesus Himself prayed, so that there will be no rebelliousness or disgruntlement after the election has ended but rather let peaceful acceptance and joy over the results be evident among them all.
As for the newly elected Bishops, may they also move in unity, first with you, standing in humble awe of being chosen for such a task, and second with each other. Let there be no feeling of competition or insecurity but rather a sense of teamwork and equality. May they be in full agreement that they must all be Spirit dependent and empowered in order to fulfil the tasks expected of them to lead the GMC with your wisdom and guidance. As they lead with their God given authority, keep them from a spirit of entitlement that would cause them to lord it over the conferences they have charge over. Instead, let them walk in prayerful humility, giving permission to be care-fronted when necessary in the spirit of accountability. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Rev Vida Mei Rivera, Mega Manilla Conference
September 4th – John 17:23
Beloved God, our Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before You to express our gratitude for Your immense love toward us.
It is our prayer that, just as Jesus Christ is in us and You are in Him, this unity may be evident at every moment of the Global Methodist Church General Conference. We come from different regions, cultures, languages, and customs. But in you, Lord, we are one through the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
May the gifts You have given us, the skills You have bestowed upon us, the abilities You have forged within us, complement each other throughout the entire process, being one Body in Christ Jesus.
Guide us, Lord, to walk together in unity, that we may be of one mind, that cultural barriers may not be a limit, but rather that the richness of each culture may be manifested because we worship the same God, we praise the same Creator and Lord, and in you we are one. Amen
Ms Carmen Mollo, Peru Conference
September 5th – Psalm 27:13 & 14
Almighty God, You are our Creator, our Deliverer, our Strength, our Refuge, and our Stronghold - Yahweh. We bow before You with grateful hearts and give thanks for Your constant presence, for You have been moving and working among us throughout this General Conference.
Father, we confess that there have been moments this week when we have leaned into our own desires and expectations instead of fully leaning into Your will - when we have spoken more than we have listened, resisted new or different ways, and rushed ahead instead of waiting upon
You. Forgive us, Lord.
As we enter this final day of the General Conference - with our urgency, our agendas, and our desire to finish what lies before us - do not let us miss You in the details or rush past Your voice. Open our eyes and hearts that we may know the width, depth, and height of Your call upon each of us and upon the Global Methodist Church.
God, You will not be stopped. We pray for the revival of Your Holy Spirit across the earth - not because of who we are or what we have done, but because of who You are. May every village, town, city, and community bow before You as they come to know Your goodness, mercy, and grace. Align our hearts with Your will, O Lord. Weave the Global Methodist Church together so we do not unravel Your work through our own desires, plans, egos, titles, complacency, or pride.
We wait for You, Lord. Teach us to wait with humility—for Your timing, Your anointing, and Your will. In Jesus’ name, we quvah—we wait with expectation. Amen.
Ms Jan Floro, Trinity Conference
September 6th – Matthew 28:16 – 20
Heavenly Father, King of all kings, we come before you at this moment and humble ourselves. As we tear down the tents that were built here in South Africa and prepare to travel back to our homes to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, may we be connected with God our Creator, and one another, through our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Help us to forget about the past and focus into the future of God’s will for our church.
Our Lord, you have promised us that you will never forsake us and you will be with us to the ends of the world. Help us to trust this promise. Our Lord, you have commanded us to baptize those who repent and teach them to obey all your commandments. Help us to go and do the same. Therefore, go Saints! May you travel safely, may our Lord protect all your servants that blessed these mountains of South Africa during General Conference. May all the proceedings that took place here be honoured, we pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
Mr Patrick Magaqa, South Africa Conference
