Travel Insurance
2026 General Conference
Travel insurance is recommended for General Conference.
See guidance below to choose the best option for you.
GMC-PAY Travelers
Your travel insurance is included in what the GMC covers. You have the option to add additional medical coverage.
NON-GMC-PAY Travelers
(Self-Pay)
For those who have booked their travel through Uniglobe, our General Conference travel partner, you received a link for a third-party provider of travel insurance. If you did not take advantage of that upon receiving your flight confirmation, you can use your flight confirmation to locate that information and contact Travel Guard to purchase travel insurance.
If annual conferences would like to consider travel insurance for delegates, you can add coverage.
For International Conference Travelers
For attendees traveling internationally (such as those attending conferences in places like Johannesburg), the most important coverages are usually:
- Emergency medical coverage
- Emergency medical evacuation
- Trip cancellation/interruption
- Travel delay coverage
- Baggage loss and delay coverage
Many travelers assume their domestic health insurance covers them abroad, but that is often limited or unavailable outside their home country. Please check with your health insurance provider for more information.
A typical travel insurance policy should include the following coverage:
1. Trip Cancellation
Reimburses prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you must cancel before departure for a covered reason, such as:
- Serious illness or injury
- Death of a traveler or close family member
- Certain natural disasters
- Jury duty or other covered legal obligations
2. Trip Interruption
Provides reimbursement if your trip is cut short after departure due to a covered event and may pay for:
- Unused travel arrangements
- Additional transportation costs to return home
3. Emergency Medical Expenses
Pays for medical treatment if you become sick or injured while traveling, including:
- Doctor visits
- Hospitalization
- Prescription medications
- Emergency dental treatment (often limited)
4. Emergency Medical Evacuation
Covers transportation to the nearest appropriate medical facility or, when medically necessary, transport back home. This is especially important for international travel, as evacuation costs can exceed tens of thousands of dollars.
5. Baggage Loss, Theft, or Damage
Provides reimbursement for:
- Lost luggage
- Stolen personal belongings
- Damaged baggage
6. Baggage Delay
Pays for essential items such as clothing and toiletries if your checked luggage is delayed for a specified period.
7. Travel Delay
Reimburses additional expenses caused by significant travel delays, including:
- Hotel accommodations
- Meals
- Local transportation
8. Accidental Death and Dismemberment
Provides a benefit if a traveler dies or suffers certain severe injuries during the trip.
Common Exclusions
Travel insurance generally does NOT cover:
- Known events that existed before you purchased the policy
- Routine medical care
- High-risk activities unless specifically covered
- Traveling against government advisories (depending on the policy)
- Losses resulting from intoxication or illegal activities
- Pre-existing medical conditions unless covered by a waiver
